What We Do

NYAPRS is a statewide coalition of people who use, provide, and/or support recovery-oriented mental health services.  We act to promote the concept and practice of mental health recovery, and the rights of people with psychiatric disabilities in the system wide struggle against stigma both within the mental health system and in the larger community.

As members of the New York City region of NYAPRS, we come together to advocate for a system-wide re-orientation towards recovery and rehabilitation. We reach out to all communities to support us in our recovery-focused movement.

NYAPRS also works for system wide change. We aim to change laws to better the lives of those with mental illness and the consumer friendly service providers. NYAPRS does not work on individual cases of discrimination or case management. Instead we work to make changes system wide in one fell swoop.
